Self-Introduction An encounter with the term ” Mädchen” (girl) marked the beginning of my path to my area of research. During the Weimar period, novels were written by young female authors where girls were characterized as heroines. At that time, young women were starting to be active not only in literature, but also in other different fields of the arts such as photography or visual arts. The democratization or popularization of art will have enabled more women to do this than before. “Mädchen” here could therefore denote a great transformation of society. The changes this girl image reflects and what the young female authors wrote afterwards are where my interest primarily lies.
